Review of Up

Pixar’s Up begins with a beautiful, emotional montage; soars through funny and exciting adventures sequences; and concludes with scenes of gentle charm.  Carl Frederickson, Up’s protagonist, is an elderly man who honors his wife’s memory by flying their house to the wilds of South America; furthermore, he is accompanied by Russell, a “Wilderness Explorer” trying to earn a badge in assisting the elderly, and a very amusing dog named Dug.  While the adventure and comedy is entertaining, an early scene is genuinely heartbreaking, but provides the necessary backstory for later emotional developments.  Simply put, Up is Pixar’s latest marvelous film.
